Carolyn got a call from Anderson Elementary School in Grand Blanc Michigan, to help them catch an unusual bird that was on their grounds. Turns out it's a Chukar partridge, and proably escaped from a private residence or even a hunting preserve. It's indigenous to Pakistan - in fact it's their national bird - and while Chukars have spread to some western states, they're not found anywhere wild in Michigan as far as we can find out.
So...we are in the process of trying to find somewhere to safely relocate her, and releasing her in the wild may not be feasible.
Greetings! Last weekend a chukar appeared on the back deck of my house located near Charlotte MI. She (I really don't know the gender) seems to be healthy and is eating and drinking well. However I don't believe she is used to fending for herself or foraging for food. She really seems to enjoy looking at her reflection in the sliding glass door. I was wondering if you ever found a sanctuary for your chukar? I called a number of orgs and they were very disinterested.
