We also took several photos with our own dogs, or just fooling around, and taking a break from wearing the really hot and claustrophobic Easter Bunny head.

We had a fun weekend at PetCo on Miller Rd in Flint Township taking photos of many wonderful dogs, children, one cat and even several rabbits, with the Easter Bunny.

Chukar Partridge Roundup!

Carolyn got a call from Anderson Elementary School in Grand Blanc Michigan, to help them catch an unusual bird that was on their grounds. Turns out it's a Chukar partridge, and proably escaped from a private residence or even a hunting preserve. It's indigenous to Pakistan - in fact it's their national bird - and while Chukars have spread to some western states, they're not found anywhere wild in Michigan as far as we can find out.
So...we are in the process of trying to find somewhere to safely relocate her, and releasing her in the wild may not be feasible.

Cat bites are nothing to mess around with. One study indicated that about 2.5% of all dog b ites became infected, while almost 90% of cats bites become infected and in some cases can lead to death. Those long, thin cat incisors inflict deep punctures. Because cats' mouths are rife with bacteria, in effect the bite injects bacteria deep into the tissue, and while washing the wound thoroughly is important, it usually will not cleanse it enough. It's mandatory to get medical attention for cat bites and start on a course of antibiotics right away.
The above photo is my leg in 2007, after being attacked by a demented cat I wasn't even aware of. It was really painful and all swelled up, even with antibiotics, but at least I didn't end up in hospital with blood poisoning.

Archer and Spade

Archer and Spade - two brothers joined at the hip! They now rule the roost in a nice big house in Bloomfield Hills.
"The little Ravens. They like bright shiny objects to play with. Like my glasses and my razor. They also like to attack thing that move under cover."
This pair made quite a few trips to PetCo for adoption events, but because they weren't cute kittens, nobody wanted them. They finally got lucky!

Another happy adoption

We had Reggie for 2 1/2 months, he was a charming and sweet mostly-pit bull, about six months old when a good hearted local cop called us and said he was too nice to be taken to the pound and killed. (Like many cities, the local Animal Control kills anything that remotely looks like a pit bull upon surrender - they don't get a chance.)
He lived in a foster home with four cats and three dogs. He was such a sweet young dog! Once he got over his fear of new people - regular walks and trips to PetCo helped him understand that people were generally going to be nice to him - he was a joy to walk, and very smart. He learned commands really quickly.
It took a while but a nice family saw his ad on Petfinder, fell in love with his face, and called us. He's now got a great home on the west side of the state and as you can see is settling in just fine!

Jax in his new home

We called Jax "Tanner", and he lived for several months at Carolyn's house, getting used to other dogs, kids and lots of cats. He is no doubt a Doberman mix and just a lovely, sweet young dog!
His new family is kind enough to send us updates and photos...Jax is obviously a much loved and well cared for family member, which is just what he deserves!
