Cat bites are nothing to mess around with. One study indicated that about 2.5% of all dog b ites became infected, while almost 90% of cats bites become infected and in some cases can lead to death. Those long, thin cat incisors inflict deep punctures. Because cats' mouths are rife with bacteria, in effect the bite injects bacteria deep into the tissue, and while washing the wound thoroughly is important, it usually will not cleanse it enough. It's mandatory to get medical attention for cat bites and start on a course of antibiotics right away. The above photo is my leg in 2007, after being attacked by a demented cat I wasn't even aware of. It was really painful and all swelled up, even with antibiotics, but at least I didn't end up in hospital with blood poisoning.
